Judith O’Connor Memorial Fund Scholarships

2014 Judith OConner Scholars

Promoting and inspiring excellence in board service is at the heart of BoardSource’s mission. This year, we once again look forward to identifying and rewarding emerging nonprofit board leaders who excel in leadership through our Judith O’Connor Memorial Fund Scholarships for Emerging Nonprofit Leaders. This scholarship program enables approximately 15 to 20 leaders to participate in the BoardSource Leadership Forum.

Scholarship Criteria

Created to honor the legacy of Judith O’Connor, the former president and CEO of BoardSource, the scholarships are awarded to leaders who best meet the following criteria:

  • Are one of the following:
    • nonprofit board members with less than three years of experience serving on a nonprofit board
    • nonprofit chief executives who are new to the chief executive position
    • nonprofit staff members with less than three years of experience working with a nonprofit board
  • Have demonstrated leadership ability and potential for their organization and the nonprofit sector
  • Are affiliated with a nonprofit organization that has an annual budget less than $5 million
  • Will enrich the diversity of the sector. Diversity includes but is not limited to age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability
  • Would not otherwise be able to attend the BoardSource Leadership Forum and have not attended a previous BLF

Please note: A scholarship covers the conference registration rate, two nights’ lodging at the conference venue, and a one-year individual membership in BoardSource. Some meals are included. All scholarship recipients are responsible for their own travel expenses.
